Just so food for thought…. What do U.S. citizens spend the majority of there incomes on every year?.
If you had to think more than a few minutes on this question you must not be having any fun in your life, because the majority of our incomes go to things or services to entertain us. If you look at all the thing we spend money on most of which is not to sustain our selves but to provide us with enjoyment. We pay celebrities and athletes billions and billions to keep us entertained on a daily basis but yet our healthcare systems and education systems are struggling to maintain for lack of funding. Have we as a society become absolutely oblivious to what we are doing to our nation and the world for the mere enjoyment of watching a box in our living rooms that on average we spend $125 a month for cable service and let’s don’t forget the $500-2500 we spend on just the TV to provide us with instant gratification. But at what cost have we sold ourselves out?
The cost is the loss of our own social fabric and our communities. Society has reached a point where human interaction is a fleeting moment in time. If it is something we can not do on a cell phone or through email we dread every moment. You see it in every company, government agency and in your own neighborhoods, if that’s what you call them now a days. Business is not done face to face anymore, remember the door to door sales man, who it was kind of refreshing to have someone take personal interest in making sure your where served with respect and the "personal touch". About the only place you see this in today’s society is the good old car dealership but even they have become victim to mass email and broadcast ads to get you to come in.
Even in our work place we stopped talking with each other to do tasks but we send emails. I bet for most of you that work in large companies you probably get emails for people inside your own firms that you have never met face to face. In some ways this has been good because if you do not know who’s at the other end of the conversation you can not be bias or discriminatory but in may ways it is bad because we stop learning how to effective communicate with a person touch. We have seen it spread outside the job environments to our living communities.
Do you know who lives around you? Most of you will say yeah I know my next door neighbor, but what about the one next to them or the next one and the answer would probably be "I don’t know". This is true for most our communities and even our own families. I remember the days not long ago maybe 15 years back when communities where very close net. You knew everyone at least on your street or within a square block of you. The kids played out in the streets and everyone watched out for everyone’s kids and if one got out of line there parents knew it in a minute. If your family went on vacation, your neighbors where the ones who watched out for your home and pets, and you did the same for them.
But we can not place all the blame on entertainment and technology, most has to fall on us. We don’t want to know what is really going on in the world or else we actually may have to take a stand and do something about it and lord knows that would mean actually get out of our cocoons and talking to people..

I was at the convenience store yesterday and to my dismay I saw on the candy shelve a new snickers bar, Snickers Charged. New candy bars are nothing new but this was different it has caffeine add. Why would you need caffeine added to something that already has a caffeine base with chocolate? It just does not make sense to me.
But it seems we add caffeine to every thing we eat and drink these days. Why? What do we really expect to get out of caffeine, a little extra boost to get us threw the day or that jolt to help us stay awake a little while more to get a few extra hours of time to get things done. When in all reality caffeine does not really help us in any why other than raise our nervous systems to a point of agitation and constantly putting America on the edge of an inevitable violent outrage.
Caffeine is a drug that we all experiment with from time to time. All thought we never think of it that way most people in America do have a caffeine addiction. Caffeine builds up in your system and makes you tolerant to it. You have to have it so the amount that is built up always stays the same. Considering that 80% to 90% of American adults consume caffeine daily and their daily caffeine intake exceeds 200 mg/day. With these facts it can be surmised that most of the U.S. adult population is completely tolerant and addicted to to most of the effects of caffeine.
As I have said Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and can produce different symptoms through out the rest of the body. Some times people experience a caffeine overdose ("caffeinism").The effects varies according to individual body size and type and the amount of caffeine consumed. Doses ranging from 250 to 750 mg , which is 2 to 7 cups of coffee, this can produce restlessness, nausea, headache, sleep disturbances, and irregular heart beats. In some cases it may also causes an eating disorder called anorexia. Doses of over 750 mg , seven cups of coffee, can produce a reaction similar to an anxiety attack: the symptoms include being delirious, ringing ears, and light flashes.
Here are a couple interesting facts….
Coffee is the world’s most popular stimulant, 4/5 of Americans drink it
400 million cups a day are drank in America
Coffee is second in world trade: oil is first
Caffeine withdrawal also one of the most common causes of headaches
It is not the illegal drugs out there society needs to worry the most about it is the ones that we put in our foods and drinks. But caffeine has a long history in our society and it is becoming more and more popular. Caffeine is one of the world’s most widely used drugs. Many anthropologists believe its use may date back to the Stone Age. Caffeine was first extracted from coffee in 1821. Coffee originated in Ethiopia and by the was later introduced to Arabia and the rest of the east. Ethiopian nomads discovered coffee through their animals, the animals would eat the fruits from the trees they would have an energy boost. The nomads tried eating the seeds and had an increase in energy. Coffee has since been linked to religious ceremonies, some people involved in the rituals could stay up and pray/worship most of the night. In 1573 coffee was introduced to the Europeans. Tea was introduced later in 1657 and became very popular to the people of Europe. Near the end of the 19th century cola products started to appear around the world and became on of the larger drank caffeine drinks.
The average American consumers 10x the amount of caffeine than what we did 10 years ago and in a interesting correlation the amount of violence and disruptive outburst in our society has risen right along with it. The average American is constantly on edge and we keep ourselves that way with out Starbucks double espressos, caffeine charged candy bars and other caffeine supplements.
